§ 05 — Questions
Acne FAQs
How can you treat acne online?
Online dermatological services, such as Lavie Labs, can ensure everyone can access effective acne treatment and other skin disorders. We do this by evaluating your skin using images you upload online. Along with a quiz to determine your skin type, our dermatology team will use your images to accurately diagnose and prescribe the appropriate treatment for your skin type and problem.
Unlike traditional dermatologist consultations, which may be expensive and time-consuming, using an online service ensures that you are treated immediately by friendly dermatological staff from the comfort of your own home.
To ensure that your skin assessment and diagnosis are appropriate, the images should be as crisp and well-lit as possible. If you’re concerned about the accuracy of your skin images, ask someone else to assist you in taking them.
Although acne can affect the entire body, our service treats pimples on the face.
How long will it take to see results?
The time it takes to see results can be based on:
- Your skin type (for example, how dry or oily your skin is, and whether you tend to create black markings when your skin is inflamed)
- Your personalised formula (active components)
You should begin to notice results within the first few weeks, though it may take longer to see your skin at its ‘best.’ For example, those with acne who use adapalene will notice a visible improvement within 2-5 weeks, but it may take up to 8-12 weeks to achieve the most significant effects on their skin. To ensure that your treatment is as effective as possible, we will be with you throughout your trip, monitoring your progress and doing everything we can to help you achieve your treatment goals.
What can I do about my maskne?
Many people experienced ‘maskne’ during the epidemic, an undesirable side effect of wearing masks. Our skin naturally produces oil, germs, and dead skin cells, but wearing a mask can cause these items to accumulate and clog your pores. It’s also common for masks to trap humidity from breathing and sweating, which might raise the risk of acne.
Fortunately, by combating the bacteria that cause acne, the active components in our therapies will aid in treating acne while enhancing the overall appearance of your skin. Another technique to help prevent maskne is to wear masks made of softer materials, like silk, and to cleanse your face regularly, particularly after using a face mask for an extended amount of time.
What else can I do to help my acne?
In addition to utilising your personalised formula, various other strategies exist to prevent and treat acne. One of the most effective is cleaning your skin with a gentle cleanser at least twice daily, especially after exercise or sweating.
Using a mild moisturiser after cleansing and sunscreen in the morning also helps to protect your skin’s barrier. Also, avoiding comedogenic goods while your treatment will be beneficial. Contrary to common opinion, there is no evidence that food directly causes acne; however, we encourage a well-balanced diet and lots of water throughout the day.
Finally, stress may contribute to acne production by altering hormones such as cortisol. As a result, exercise and other healthy stress-management activities are good not only for your health but also for your skin.
Do you treat scarring?
Our formulations can aid with breakouts, fine wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. They can also help with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by acne, as well as the appearance of some moderate acne scars.
Some active components can help you attain a smoother, more even skin texture, but deeper scarring may necessitate specialised therapy. We recommend visiting a dermatologist to explore the best alternatives for you.
Can I take antibiotics while using Lavie Labs treatment?
It usually is safe to use antibiotics while on your Lavie Labs treatment, but please let us know if you start any new medications so we can double-check if they are safe. If you are using oral antibiotics to treat your acne, we will advise you on the appropriate next steps, as some of our formulations contain antibiotics.
Will my acne get worse before it gets better?
It is common for your skin to break out during the first few weeks of treatment before you notice any obvious results. If this happens to you, realise that it is normal and indicates that your skin is clearing away some of the breakouts expected to appear later.
